Occupational Therapy

Our Pediatric Occupational Therapists at Kids Can Shine each have over 20 years experience working with the pediatric population, from infants to teens.

Our SLP is also skilled in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) while supporting a total-communication approach.

Social Work

Our Social Worker at Kids Can Shine has over 20 years of experience working with children, youth and adults.

What Social can Work Support:

Our social worker specializes in working with children and youth with exceptional needs, helping families navigate parenting challenges, adjust to a child’s diagnosis and manage the complexities of raising a child with special needs.

Our Social Worker also provides compassionate support to adults and parents facing grief and loss, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, chronic stress and burnout. Justin tailors therapy to each client’s unique needs, integrating evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).

Grounded in empathy and a strengths-based perspective, Justin is committed to empowering children, parents and families to build resilience, find balance, and navigate life’s challenges with confidence.

Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

Dr. Garcia Thibodeau is a Pediatric Psychiatrist for Children and Youth.  She offers one time consultation sessions for children and parents, that can assist in navigating some the following needs:

  • Consultations
  • Diagnostic Education and Support
  • Medication recommendations following a psychoeducational assessment
  • Reassessments around medication management
  • Medication recommendations
  • ADHD Support
  • Anxiety/ Depression Support
  • Sleep Support
  • Emotional Regulation Support

A physician referral is required and this service is covered under OHIP.

Registered Dietitian

Our dietitian provides support to infants through to adulthood. Laura has 25 years of extensive experience and can support a wide range of clinical areas, including but not limited to:

  • infant feeding
  • introduction of solids
  • picky eating
  • feeding tubes
  • digestive concerns
  • cancer
  • diabetes
  • weight management
  • prenatal and postpartum support
  • hypercholesterolemia and hyperlipidemia

Education Resource

We have an Education Resource consultant who can provide a unique lens on supportive strategy building for children. As a retired teacher with special skill set in Math skills, this resource focuses on Executive Function skill building for each client (ie: Organization, Time Management, Planning, Task Initiation).

Some areas of targeted support may include:

  • Tools and strategy development for home and school
  • Consultation with caregivers and educators re: IEP implementation
  • Applying executive function strategies to areas of learning (e.g. math, reading)
